If the guy has a crush in you then he could be thinking the friendship and text are a glimmer of hope that something more may materialize. Thus you have to drop hints and be sure that he knows you only see him as a friend. If he knows that then you are not leading him on. Be careful though. There are very few friends of the opposite that have your best interest when it comes to relationships.
