The oil industry and their lobbyists. Stop to consider, in the distillation process of turning crude oil into gasoline, the garbage taken off the top is diesel fuel, it requires less refining. So, why then are the truckers delivering our goods to market (groceries, etc.) paying at least 50 cents more per gallon than are people driving vehicles powered by gas? Again, diesel costs less to produce than does gasoline. So, why is Congress not interested in asking this same question? Why have we not built one, single, solitary petroleum distillation plant in this country since 1975? And still, Detroit turns out behemoth gas guzzlers.
