I am prescribed Xanax. I was wondering since i have a very bad cough right now if i should stop taking it.?

My son has bronchitis and I am starting to get a bad cough. I take 2. mg of xanax a day. do you think this is bad since I'm getting a cough. I know I should seek medical attention but the Dr office is closed for the holidays and I'm not about to pay 1000.00 for an er visit if it is nothing. I also am a smoker so it could just be me over reacting and just getting a bad smokers cough. no negative replies please. I hate when people are rude on here.
